Texas Pedestrian Injury Lawyers Get Justice for Accident Victims

Helping people who have been run over in Conroe and Kenedy

Pedestrians frequently suffer serious injuries in Texas car accidents, truck wrecks and motorcycle crashes. Texas has the third-most pedestrian fatalities of any state in the country and is ranked as the 10th most dangerous state for walking commuters. Between 2003 and 2012, nearly 4,200 people were killed in our state while walking. At Hope & Causey, P.C., our attorneys are committed to helping injury victims get the financial compensation they need. We focus on getting your medical bills paid and your pain and suffering recognized.

Accidents involving pedestrians are a big problem in Texas and the U.S.

In 2013, 485 pedestrians were killed throughout Texas. While this is a big problem within the state, it is also a major issue throughout the United States. A pedestrian was injured, on average, every eight minutes across the country.

In order to reduce the occurrence of injuries, it is important to understand when they happen and who they happen to. Accidents are most likely to occur at night and in urban areas. Groups most at risk for pedestrian accidents include:

  • Older adults. In 2012, 20% of deaths were among people aged 65 or older.
  • Children play outside. They also walk home from school or bus stops. Because children are harder to see, they are at high risk for being run over and suffering injuries.
  • Intoxicated people. Just as intoxication raises the risk of an auto accident for drivers, it makes walking more dangerous.

The risk of an accident involving a pedestrian also increases when drivers are speeding or intoxicated. In fact, in 48% of these crashes resulting in a wrongful death, either the driver or victim was intoxicated. Our lawyers are focused on getting justice for pedestrians hit by drunk, distracted or speeding drivers.

Avoiding injuries and vehicle crashes

Nearly 5,000 people were killed while travelling on foot in the U.S. in 2013. We can all work to reduce that number. Pedestrians can take steps to be safer and reduce the risk of being involved in an accident. If you are walking at night, you should wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Never dart out in between cars. Most pedestrians are killed away from intersections, so it is important to cross using a crosswalk when possible. Use a sidewalk when one is available. In areas with no sidewalks, walk on the shoulder of the road, facing traffic. If you are hit by a vehicle, our highly-responsive attorneys work to get you any compensation you are entitled to under the law.
